A bit of history on how the
candle was born.
It is often
written that the first candles were developed by the Ancient Egyptians who
used torches, made by soaking the pithy core of reeds in molten tallow, the
torches had no wick like a candle. It is the Romans who developed the wick
candle, using it to help travelers at night, and lighting homes and places
of worship. It was not until the Middle Ages when beeswax, was used to make
candles they used the substance secreted by honey bees to make their
honeycombs. Beeswax candles were a great improvement over those made with
tallow, they did not produce a smoky flame, or emit an odor when burned.
Instead, beeswax candles burned pure and clean.

However, they
were expensive, only the wealthy could afford them.
Today we use candles in a
different way, we don't need to use candles to light our homes, instead we
use candles or scented candles to help us relax.
After putting in a hard days
work and sitting in traffic we should learn to pamper ourselves. After the
kids are in bed take a nice hot bath and using only candle light to relax
with. Candles have that soothing effect that creates a relaxed atmosphere.
When we are totally relaxed all the cares of the world disappear.
When lighting candles it is
very important to keep an eye on them, children love to watch the flickering
light of a candle, the flame of a candle is a fascination to a child.
