To have great looking bed
linen and all your other laundry articles such as towels and clothes follow the
manufacturers instructions carefully.
The best way to have your bed linen
looking beautiful, launder it once a week and treat stains
immediately with commercial stain removers or mix soap and
water. Apply it to the spot and rub it in. Launder as soon as possible.
Never launder light and dark
colors together.
Sort your clothes by color
and material. Never mix whites with other colors
because they may not be color fast and may bleed into your expensive white
sheets and/or clothes for they my be ruined forever.
Never wash a sweater with
your slacks. I can assure you that your slacks will be ruined for good,
with all the little balls from your sweater stuck to them.
Whites generally are washed in hot water
unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer. For colors and darks use a warm
water setting. Sweaters should be laundered inside out in cold water with special
detergent made for woolens. When washing clothes an important thing to
remember is not to overload your washing machine. Use the setting for the
type of material that is being washed.

Do not use to much soap. If
your machine is overloaded your clothes will not come clean and the soap
will not get removed giving your whites a grayish appearance. The same
goes for overloading the dryer: firstly, it will not dry your clothes as
fast and everything will come out wrinkled. Less is better. Again use the
setting for the type of material being dried.
A word of caution: always
empty your lint catcher after every load you have dried. Too much lint may
block the heat sensor and your dryer can catch fire.
Some articles of clothing
may need a slight touchup with an iron to remove creases. I find that
if you remove clothes from the dryer and hang them right away before the
dryer shuts off the chances that you may have to do touch ups are
slim. Always have your hangers ready to hang clothes. This saves time
on laundry day.
Sorting made simple! Keep
your laundry organized.
When purchasing a laundry hamper you can
find all sorts on the market. The one I like best is the one with
three sections. You can sort your clothes right away when putting them in the hamper,
it saves time when laundry day arrives. It can also teach children how to sort their clothes:
to keep them off the floor and put them in the hamper right
away.
There are others hampers
that do the job. Keeping all the dirty laundry in one place rather than
all over the bedroom floor saves time and energy and leaves less
possibility of the washing machine eating socks!
